Who Is Ruling Nigeria - Buhari or The Others?

In his reaction to how the Nigerian economy has been managed by past governments, Professor Pat Utomi has stated that the likes of Obasanjo, IBB and co are still the ones running Nigeria with President Muhammadu Buhari. Utomi lamented that there was too much of politics in Nigeria, adding that the country needed to get rid of more politicians and get more statesmen, people who can think outside party politics. “The central thing driving us should be Nigeria, the future, the children, productivity and growth. These are realities and should happen, but they are not happening. “What happened in Nigeria is that the culture of the class of 1966 was primarily anti-intellectual. Maybe, they did not think through it as a policy, but they forced Nigeria’s brightest minds to live the town”, the professor of political economy and management expert told Guardian. “Buhari is part of the class of 1966. Is Obasanjo still around? Yes. What about TY Danjuma, Ibrahim Babangida? They are still around? Nigeria is still in their hands, and the worst part is that they have created cronies. “What is required is a full understanding of what went wrong with Nigeria so that we can begin to correct it. Ignorance was a critical part of the problem. That is why we have the duty to educate. “The mistakes with the savings of excess crude earnings alone are so glaring that I think people everywhere should understand our problem. But we just chose not to understand that more than anything, we should educate the Nigerian people about why leaderships is an intellectual activity. We need to think. “This class also managed to demonize thinking so much that when you are thoughtful in Nigeria, people will say it is theory. Nigerians should have gone beyond this to believe that thinking is something that doesn’t work. “Everywhere in the world, when leaders gather, they are looking for thinkers to be around them. But in Nigeria, we chase them away. As in popular culture, people in the street say, grammar. That is one of the cultural damages”, he said. On claims by government that Nigeria is coming out of recession, Utomi replied: “See, this obsession with certain statistical numbers over incomplete understanding of people’s serious situation, I believe, is part of our problem. What is recession? “Decline in growth, quarter over the quarter and so we are in this technical thing called a recession. If you manage to begin to grow the economy, say you have one quarter of positive growth and another quarter of positive growth, how much has that really changed the life of the average citizen out there? “That is why for me, one of the best ways to look at history is the way offered by one of the great sociologists of the 20th century, Wright Mills. “He argues in his famous ‘the sociological imagination’ that you do not understand history until you get to that intersection point of statistics where some people died in the pursuit of personal troubles and until you understand a family that has managed to borrow, cheat, steal to put six children through university and all of them are unemployed. “Until you can understand their circumstance, you don’t understand history and it means you don’t understand whether recession is over in terms of statistical numbers or not. So, playing this game in terms of recession is totally meaningless to me. “I really don’t care whether we are in recession or we are not in recession, what I care about is the quality of life of Abubakar, Rasheed, Chukwuemeka, that is what really matters and it has not escaped mystery yet. Was it not Goodluck Jonathan who said that Nigeria was thriving? After all, it was the fastest growing Jet market in the world? That is a layman’s language in describing the thriving growth of an economy. “The measure of distribution of income in our country is a disaster, the country where many people cannot eat one good meal a day and a number of people are buying private jet, which is ill gotten wealth. “If they worked for it, you will see the jobs created by their enterprise, but they have private Jets in reverse and don’t have people in their employ. These are the kinds people that need invitation to come and explain themselves”.

Almajiris represent Poverty and not Islam - Sultan Of Sokoto

The Sultan of Sokoto  Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III has  on Sunday declared street begging by children, popularly known as Almajiri, unIslamic and a representation of hunger and poverty. Recall that 20 months of Former President Goodluck Jonathan assumption of office, he built 9 universities and 20 Almajiri schools across the country as a way of taking them out of the streets. But instead, President Muhammadu Buhari used them to vote out  Jonathan in 2015 as revealed by a All Progressives Congress, APC, Chieftain and serving Senator, Rabiu Kwankwaso.  The Sultan who is also the President-General of Jama’atu Nasril Islam stated these in Kaduna while presiding over the pre-Ramadan meeting of JNI’s Central Committee, held at the JNI headquarters. Delivering his opening remarks, the Sultan said, the meeting would be discussing issues that affect Muslims and Islam in Nigeria and other parts of the world. While disclosing that, the issue of Almajiri would be among the challenges to address at the meeting, the Sultan said, “Almajiri does not represent Islam, but hunger and poverty”. He added, “Almajiri system of begging is not representing Islam and must therefore be distinguished from Islam. Islam encourages scholarship and entrepreneurship and frowns at laziness and idleness as exemplified by itinerant Almajiri. “Therefore attempt must be made to stop the practice Almajiri system of begging among Muslim faithfuls.” While noting that hunger and poverty were responsible for children begging on the streets, the Sultan charged the government, particularly at the state level to prioritise welfare of their citizens to address hunger and poverty. He also charged the state governments to strengthen institution of ‘Zakkat’ and endowment to address wanton poverty.

This article looks at top 10 habits that make your skin age faster. 1. Alcohol Alcohol is a known diuretic meaning when you take it in excess it causes dehydration. Dehydration decreases the skin natural moisture, which automatically makes you look pale and older than your age Excess alcohol intake also depletes important nutrients especially vitamins A and C. These two vitamins are essential for maintaining vibrant and supple skin. In addition, excessive alcohol intake also triggers rosacea outbreaks. Studies also show that high alcohol intake is associated with skin cancer. A 2014 study published in Cancer Causes and Control reveals that high intake of alcohol, high intake of white wine or liquor were associated with increased risk of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer (1). However, this does not imply you cannot enjoy having a drink, just drink in moderation or occasionally. 2. Smoking It is a known fact that smoking is linked to heart disease, infertility, bladder cancer, high blood pressure and lung cancer, but if none of this motivates you to ditch this habit, maybe vanity will. Smoking is also known to accelerate aging process of the skin. The toxic chemicals in cigarette smoke deprive your skin cells of oxygen, which leads to paleness, uneven coloring. It even stimulates the breakdown of collagen and cause loose and saggy skin. A 2007 study published in the Journal of Dermatological science reveals that smoking tobacco accelerates skin aging. So if you are so much concerned about your physical appearance, you should quit smoking (2). Another study in 2013 published in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery shows the facial changes caused by smoking between smoking and nonsmoking identical twins (3). Whether you smoke or you spend time with a smoker, the smoke from cigarette is bad for your skin’s health. By giving up on smoking and avoiding second hand smoke, you can restore your skin’s health and avoid premature aging A 2010 study published in SKINmed Journal reveals that giving up on smoking rejuvenate skin conditions and skin-aging effects (4). 3. Stress Stress, anxiety and constant worry takes a toll on your skin. A 2012 study reveals that job-related stress can cause a harmful effect on DNA in your cells (5). In another scenario, have you noticed that when you frown a lot you are feeling stressed which is not good for your appearance? Over time, your facial muscle actually twitches and conforms to that movement. The ultimate result is wrinkles on the forehead which makes you look much older than your age. As mentioned above, stress plays a vital role in initiating cascade of events that cause skin aging at the cellular level. Stress accelerates the breakdown of collagen, DNA damage and also promotes the release of pro-inflammatory mediators (cytokines), which trigger premature aging. A 2014 study published in Inflammation Allergy and Drug Targets reveals brain-skin connection and how the skin reacts to the stress level by activating the endocrine and immune systems, and the negative impact of chronic stress on skin’s health (6). In addition, stress is also a risk factor for several chronic diseases including hypertension, obesity and cardiovascular disease You cannot totally eliminate stress, but you can manage it and reduce its effect. 4. Too Little Sleep Normally an adult needs at least 7 hours of sleep every night, and just one night of bad sleep can make you look and feel tired. Bad sleep can even lead to dark circles and bags under your eyes. Now imagine what little or no sleep over a couple of days can do to your skin appearance. Depriving yourself of sleep could cause skin damage in several ways. First, it could increase your cortisol level, which can worsen inflammatory conditions. Second, it can cause improper collagen formation, leading to skin aging. A 2013 study by the University Hospitals Case Medical Center reveals that sleep quality has a direct impact on skin function and aging (7). This study reveals that poor sleepers had increased signs of skin aging and slower recovery from several environmental stressors, such as UV radiation or disruption of the skin barrier. Burning the midnight oil can be fun, but the effect is that it makes you look older than your age. Importantly, avoid sleeping too long on one side of your face, as it could cause wrinkles and sleep lines. 5. Sunbathing No matter how amazing the sun feels on your body, sunbathing or tanning is one of the worst things you can do for your skin. Long-term exposure to excessive ultraviolet (UV) rays weakens your skin cells and blood vessels, which eventually causes a tanned, leathery looking skin. It can even lead to hyperpigmentation, reduced skin elasticity and degradation of skin texture, making your skin susceptible to bruising. In addition, the risk of skin cancer is significantly higher due to excessive sun exposure. Excessive UV exposure is likely to be responsible for signs of facial aging according to a study published in Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology Journal (. To make sure you protect your skin against exceccive sun exposure, protect your skin by wearing a hat, covering up with clothing and using sunscreen that is broad-spectrum, SPF 30 (or higher). Also, remember to reapply sunscreen throughout the year especially on those hot summer days when you are constantly in and out of the pool. However, if you have a sun-damaged skin, consult a doctor for proper examination. 6. Sedentary Lifestyle Instead of being inactive and increasing your risk of obesity and other health problems, make exercise a part of your daily life. Exercise helps tone your muscle and for proper blood flow to your skin, providing the necessary nutrients to the skin cells. This makes you have a radiating and supple skin. Exercise also helps combat heart disease, keeps stress at bay, fights brain fog, reduces inflammation, and prevents other chronic diseases that crop up with age. Get out of your comfort zone and get moving. The American College of Sports Medicine guidelines recommends at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week (9). You can start with the activities you enjoy the most – walking, swimming, jogging, cycling, dancing etc. 7. Holding Grudges In case you never knew, unforgiveness can make you age faster than you think. Although most of us believes in forgiveness but we rarely practice it. Holding grudges against any one at any point in time is not good for your health and appearance. Your inability to forgive adds more stress to your life which boosts your level of cortisol. Cortisol is a steroid hormone that leads to weight gain, hypertension and high blood sugar. As mentioned earlier, stress leads to more frowning one of the key causes of wrinkles in the forehead. A 2005 study published in the Journal of Behavioral Medicine reveals a correlation between unforgiveness and reduction in stress (10). Stress has been implicated in various health problems and also contributes to aging. Don’t allow grudges ruin your youthfulness. Forgiveness should be your watchword for better mental and physical well-being. 8. Feeding On Sugar A sugar-packed diet is a one way ticket to obesity. Also, it can accelerate the skin-aging process and can also make your skin dull and wrinkled. How does this happen? There is a process known as glycation, in which sugar molecule attaches to and damage proteins like collagen and elastin. These proteins (elastin and collagen) are important to keep skin flexible and smooth. A 2009 study published in PLoS Genetics shows a correlation between an increase in age-related diseases and over-consumption of sugar (11). It is worthy of note that sugary drinks can lead to obesity, diabetes and heart attacks. According to a 2014 study published in the American Journal of Public Health, consumption of sugary sodas may accelerate aging process (12). Eliminating sugar from your diet is not an easy task especially if you have a sweet tooth. However, you can try to avoid refined sugar and opt for natural fruits to satisfy your cravings. Better still, you can try out dark chocolate, which is good for the health due to its high antioxidant content. 9. Eating Unhealthy Food  It is a known fact that food has a direct impact on how the skin looks and the overall health of the body. You really need to pay great attention to your diet if you wish to delay your aging process. Inflammatory foods such as magarine, red meats, white bread, sugary and processed foods should be avoided, at least to the barest minimum. These foods may cause inflammation, which will ultimately accelerate aging. You should embrace foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids such as flaxseeds, flaxseed oil, avocados, olive oil and salmon. These foods help combat inflammation to prevent chronic diseases and keep your skin radiating and supple. You should also incorporate fresh fruits and vegetables into your diets. Most fruits and vegetables are rich in minerals and vitamins like zinc, selenium, beta-carotene and vitamin C, which aid in the production of collagen. Also, not forgetting protein rich foods, as low protein intake can cause tears, winkles and cracks in the skin. Protein-rich foods include eggs, lean meat, poultry and legumes. Very importantly, say no to junk and try to prepare your meal. The unhealthy levels of sodium, fat and cholesterol in junk foods are not good for your overall health including your skin. Lastly, do not underestimate the power of hydration. Drink enough fluid to prevent dehydration and enjoy younger looking skin. 10. Improper Skin Care If you want to have a healthy and flawless skin, it is pertinent to follow a proper skin-care routine. Different skin type adapts to different skin treatments, thus it is necessary to know your skin type and the type of treatment suitable for your skin. Irrespective of your skin type, endeavor to wash your face twice daily as well as after exercise or whenever you are sweating. Sweating causes skin irritation and can cause skin disorders like eczema. By gently washing off or taking a proper bath, will remove dirt, makeup and other substances that may cause skin irritation. Very importantly, don’t go to bed with your makeup. The chemicals in makeup can block skin pores leading to aging skin. And also please, minimize your makeup if you wish to prevent premature aging. Also, ensure you exfoliate your skin gently at least once a week to get rid of dead skin cells. Moisturize your skin for a youthful appearance. Endeavor to use the right make up products for your skin type. Don’t use conventional skin-care products, as they contain sulfates, parabens and phthalates – these chemicals have the potentials of altering your hormones and accelerate aging.

The fact that he is sick doesn’t mean he is going to die today or tomorrow. Somebody that is as healthy as I am now can drop dead. The report on Babachir, what is happening to it? “Why are we being held to ransom?” In a direct speech to the president, Yesufu said: “President Muhammadu Buhari, you have gotten the best in this world. A lot of things that you have, most people cannot even dream of. “You have being president twice, you said it yourself, you have reached the peak of your career as a military man and as a politician. “Can you allow each and every one of us as Nigerians be able to reach the peak of our careers? Can you just take some time off, take care of yourself. May God give you good health.” In their reaction to her call for the president’s resignation, some Nigerians rebuked her, while many agreed with her submission that the president should resign for the benefit of the country. Don Ikechukwu Funa said: “I duff my hat for you madam. This is what people like OBJ will never have the courage to say in public but instead running up and down from IBB house to Abdulsalami to Sultan’s house just to be relevant.” On his part, Isioma Chigbolu, agreed with her, saying: Very well said my sister, we have been saying it all along, but if you are Igbo they call you names , this a northerner, a good woman who cares about Nigeria moving forward. “But some fools are condoning this so called stupid cabal holding Nigeria hostage, if Buhari can not do his duties as president , let him heed this woman’s call Aisha Yusufu and resign. “Take care of your health and indeed if you must be an adviser to the new president Osinbajo if that is the case, but this acting president nonesense won’t work if these idiots who don’t care about Nigeria, but themselves won’t let Osinbajo be a truly acting president, it is just ridiculous that we are in this state in Nigeria. Tunde Husein Oyanta on the other hand disagreed with her, he said: “This is the work of pdpigs, Nigerians are not fools and it’s better you return the money you collect from them. We know it’s part of preparation for 2019, their believe is that the more Buhari is still the presidential candidate of Apc they do not have chance. In Buhari’s support, Hussaini Ibrahim Atezeey wrote: “What do you know about politics woman, if you don’t have somtin rsonable to say just keep your mouth shut, go and look after your family. Nigeria is 100 times beyond your imagination. Sai BaBa if u lyk leave d country.” Here are some tweets and Facebook comments from Nigerians: NAIJ.com had earlier reported that co-convener of the BBOG group, Aisha Yesufu has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to resign in the interest of Nigeria. Another Suicide Attack in Borno School

Barely 48 hours after three suicide bombers attacked the University of Maiduguri, another bomber on Saturday detonated his explosive outside the perimeter fencing of the school. The Borno State police commissioner, Damian Chukwu, said the incident happened at about 10 a.m. He said the bomber hid near the the university’s Children Secondary School, and detonated the bomb, killing himself, when he sighted a security man coming in his direction. There was no other casualty in the incident, he said. The incident, the third in less than two weeks, has however heightened tension in the campus, as students and staffers alike expressed worries over the frequent attacks there. The university lies on the outskirts of Maiduguri, on the route to Bama. Aside from the brick perimeter fence on the front side of the university, there is no major barrier at the back of the University, which seems to allow insurgents easy access into the campus. Last week, one of the five Boko Haram commanders swapped for the 82 abducted Chibok School girls appeared in a video threatening to inundate the country with more bomb attacks. The military dismissed the video as “cheap propaganda”.

Coup Scare and Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has been asked to own up on what he knows about the alleged ongoing plans by some persons to overthrow President Muhammadu Buhari through military upsurge. Wike, had while reacting to a comment by Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Buratai, that some people were approaching soldiers for political reasons; asked him to stop allocating soldiers to politicians. According to him, “Who are those approving battalions of soldiers to politicians? If they don’t want soldiers to follow politicians, they should stop giving soldiers to politicians.” Reacting to Wike’s comment, ‎Barrister Charles Timothy, ‎the National Coordinator of Coalition for Truth and Justice, a human right group said the statement is heavily pregnant with meaning. Timothy in a statement said Wike’s reaction was not necessary as it does not portray an understanding of the essence of what Buratai meant. According to him, “What Buratai is saying involves the orientation, training and the discipline of soldiers to respect constituted authority and would have been apt at any given time in the current democratic journey. “Trying to give it a spin that denotes the buildup of a consequence due to administrative blunder on the part of the military as Wike has done is not only mischievous but condemnable. “Political leaders should be careful how they try to drag institutions of government especially ones concerned with the security of the nation into their personal grievances. Everybody knows that the Nigeria army does not send soldiers to guard politicians as inferred by Wike. “Soldiers are usually drafted where there is a threat to peace and the possibly that the magnitude might be of a proportion more than what the police can handle. ‎ “If that is the case then his anger is misplaced as every tight thinking person expects the Nigeria Army to always defend and protect the territorial integrity of the country both internally and externally as well as disarm groups who have taken up arms again with the sole purpose of causing mayhem to serve a parochial interests. “Everybody is aware that the rerun elections in Rivers would have been more bloody if not for the presence of the military and this is something Governor Wike should appreciate if he has the interest of the people at heart. “But if he insists to know better than Buratai, he should step forward to tell Nigerians all that he knows about the purported coup to sack the civilian regime which is in place in the country. “Wike should move his patriotism an inch forward to reveal to Nigerians all that his men and friends like those who helped him to plot the rigging of the elections in Rivers had planned before they were exposed by the Nigerian Army,” the group said. CTJ, also vowed to reject every attempt by anybody to truncate the nation’s democracy just to instigate confusion and return to power through the back door those that Nigerian have overwhelmingly rejected. Report a problem.

Buhari belongs to somebody

An online news portal Premium times published on the 28th of April 2017 a report detailing a strange recruitment exercise by the Department of State Security Services. The agency had commissioned 479 cadet officers after their passing-out parade in Lagos on March 5, 2017, after  a nine-month training programme under the agency’s Basic Course 29/2016/17. The listing of those recruited into the service has now become a subject of concern to Nigerians who are confused as to what the DSS aims to achieve by the oddly disproportionate nature of its recruitment. The exercise was expected to award five slots to each state of the federation but the final listing shows a huge disparity in allotment cadet officers from each state. For example, Katsina which is the home state of the President produced fifty-one cadets while Lagos had just seven; ditto for Kano which had twenty-five while Abia got seven slots. In aggregate, the North had more slots than the South. This is a clear violation of the principle of federal character of the Federal Republic. But this is not its first occurrence under the Buhari led presidency. On the 15th of March 2016, Sahara Reporters and Premium Times reported the illegal recruitment of 91 individuals who are relatives and wards of political office holders into the Central Bank of Nigeria, the recruitment was done in secret by the Apex bank, devoid of the necessary due process. The job was not advertised for public participation rather the individuals were handpicked and the Federal Government kept mum on the issue. Also in 2016 the chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Mr Babatunde Fowler, illegally recruited people into the agency as reported by the Media. The presidency kept silent on the issue and a terse statement was released by the SA on Media and Publicity to the Vice President, Laolu Akande claiming that no such recruitment took place. As we know, the media won’t report what they don’t know but it has become the norm for the government to deny every allegation against it, however compelling they may sound. However, the current skewed recruitment by the DSS is one that has cast a blithe on the transparency and accountability being championed by the Federal Government. It lends credence to the statement attributed to the President after his election that he would pay more attention to those who voted for him than those who gave him no votes.  The statement was rebuffed by Nigerians, as it contradicts his inaugural promise of “I belong to everybody, I belong to Nobody” but the presidency has carried on by implementing the statement through its actions as seen in the recent DSS recruitment. The future implication of this is that a time will come when the DSS will be seen as an ethnic fiefdom, belonging to one part of the country. Already the southerners have expressed concerns about the “northernisation” of Buhari’s appointments and the president has not done much to assuage their fears.  One of the greatest mistakes of President Goodluck Jonathan was the promotion of an Ijaw based agenda which was roundly criticised and which eventually backfired. Buhari is doing the same at the moment. It has shown that the continuous ethnic agitations in the south against the Nigerian state won’t end anytime soon unless the south is given a sense of belonging. I’m a firm believer in One Nigeria and the indivisibility of this country. However, we must not embark on actions that fuel agitations for self-government and secession. The DSS recruitment is a slap in the face of an administration that espouses the idea of change but is found stuck in the mire of the status quo. The action of the DSS DG is inimical to the change agenda of the APC-led Federal Government and the government must speak out to condemn this abuse of power. If the government allows nepotism to go unchecked, then we are not yet ready for change. Bad news for Manchester United

Man Utd loss to Ajax in Europa League final ‘would cost £50m’ today.ng Tuesday, May 16, 2017 16:35 Manchester United will miss out on £50m if they fail to beat Ajax in the Europa League final on 24 May. The game in Stockholm is their only remaining chance of reaching next season’s Champions League. Failure to qualify for Europe’s flagship club competition for a second successive season would trigger a £21m penalty clause in their 10-year, £750m sponsorship deal with Adidas. United also expect to earn up to £30m more by being in the Champions League. The Old Trafford club’s financial officer Cliff Baty said: “For us the bigger prize is Adidas and Champions League.” The potential £21m loss of income from Adidas represents 30% of this season’s anticipated £70m annual payment. It would be spread across the 10-year length of the contract, with £4.2m deducted immediately to cover the first two years of the deal, and £2.1m knocked off the payments for each remaining year. Baty said the winner’s of next week’s game would get £6.5m, with the losers due £3.5m. Additional income from the Europa League market pool of between £7m and £8m has helped soften the financial impact of being in the tournament this season. United entered the competition as England’s top-ranked team due to their FA Cup success last season. In addition, West Ham failed to get past the play-off round, Southampton were eliminated from the group stage and Tottenham were beaten in the last 32. The extra revenue is one of the major reasons why they raised overall projections for the year to between £560m and £570m when they announced third-quarter results, with profits of between £185m and £195m now anticipated. United’s record profit is £191.9m. Baty said in a normal year, United would expect to generate between £40m and £50m in the Champions League compared to between £15m and £20m in the Europa League. Confusion in Aso Villa

The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, CACOL, has written to the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, advising him not to assent to the 2017 Appropriation bill, recently passed by the Senate. In an open letter on Monday, the CACOL Chairman, Debo Adeniran, warned that the content of the budget must be scrutinised, to avoid padding. Read the full letter below, as seen by Post-Nigeria… Your Excellency, OPEN CALL ON THE ACTING PRESIDENT NOT TO ASSENT TO THE 2017 APPROPRIATION BILL AS PASSED BY THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY UNTIL PROPER SCRUTINY AND THE EXPUNGING OF WASTEFUL SPENDINGS AND ‘PADDINGS’ IS DONE Our organization, the Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, CACOL, was up till December 28, 2016, known as Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders. CACOL is an aggregate of human rights, community based, and civil society organisations and individuals with anti-corruption and openness in governance agenda across Nigeria. It is a non-political, non-religious, non-sectarian, non-profit organisation. CACOL sets for itself the tasks of promoting accountability, openness in governance and using any available means to cause relevant authorities to probe and bring to book corrupt leaders both in public and private institutions. The decision to embark on the journey was taken in 2007 in view of the need to confront, once and for all the monster that is ravaging all facets of our national life in Nigeria – Corruption. We decided to do this with and on behalf of millions of hapless Nigerians who have by a choice that is not theirs, fallen or are potential victims of corrupt leaders. This monster torments ordinary people of Nigeria in all areas of their endeavour. We have to confront it with a view to defeating it because it has to be done, not by ghosts or citizens of other nations but by Nigerians who have pride in themselves to be full-blooded Nigerians. Our promotion and pursuance of ‘open leadership’ is hinged on our belief that it will facilitate transparency and accountability in governance while also plugging the holes of corruption. Your Excellency, at this point, we find it extremely pertinent to call on you to properly scrutinize the recently passed 2017 Appropriation bill for the country by the National Assembly, NASS, with the view of expunging ‘paddings’ and wasteful spending on frivolities. In particular, we call for close scrutiny of the jerking up of the original budget estimates proposed to NASS by the Executive up to the tune of 145 billion naira. Mr. Acting President, Sir, we note from preliminary expert analysis of the Appropriation bill 2017, that apparently the budget is not sustainable considering that 24% of the whole estimates, about 1.84 trillion naira is targeted for debt servicing. This in our view will further batter our already cumbersome debt profile and will inadvertently hinder the prioritization of the fundamental needs of the country on the order of scale of preference and opportunity costs. With deficit financing standing at N2.35trn, the debt service is about 36 per cent of our expected revenue making the capital vote of 29.30 percent just above debt service. The analysis of the budget also reveals that the N1.84trn budgeted for debt servicing is higher than the N1.34trn proposed for 10 Federal Ministries! One of the most alarming aspect of the budget is perhaps demonstrated in the insensitiveness to the sufferings and very pressing needs of the people, made very manifest by the 13 billion naira proposed for ‘refreshments, travels and welfare’ for the NASS. These are legislators that are too ‘embarrassed’ by their humongous remunerations such that they have to shroud it in secrecy as it were, but are yet to satiate their gluttonous tendencies and thus apparently looking for means to corruptly enrich themselves more. In this parlous state of economic recession with the accompanying pangs and pains of majority of Nigeria, this totally defiles logic and is thus unacceptable! We call on the Executive to take a cue from the experience of the 2016 Appropriation and the padding episode so as not to fall in the same pith where the Appropriation bill 2017 would have been assented to only to discover later that the whole document was riddled with booby-traps of corruption set by the incurably depraved elements in the corridors of power. We hasten to state unequivocally that, should the budget be assented to, as passed by legislators by the Acting President, then, it would only confirm that the Executive and the Legislature are in cahoots to continue to keep the vast majority of Nigerians in perpetually in pains. We conclude therefore by calling on the Acting President to not assent to a budget that prioritize the insatiable greed and the self-aggrandizing ends of the political class over the existential needs of class of the downtrodden, the oppressed and exploited who are the majority.

BREAKING NEWS

BREAKING: EXCLUSIVE!!! Tragic End!!! Acting President Osinbajo In The Dark.                       President Muhamamdu Buhari’s emergency medical vacation to the United Kingdom, UK, on penultimate Sunday, has been turned into a suspense-packed story, Post-Nigeria gathered. The suspense got to a feverish pitch on Monday night, as there was not yet an official report, or communication on how far Buhari is recuperating, since he left the shores of Nigeria, through a hurriedly arranged night flight to London, a source authoritatively told Post-Nigeria. This heightened calls by Nigerians on the Presidency, to declare the health status of Buhari, in order to dowse the tension created by his absence, has been dismissed by the All Progressives Congress, APC, by the wave of the hand. Recall, that penultimate Sunday, Buhari had jetted out of the country behind cameras, to attend to his health, that has made him to repeatedly fail to attend Jumat prayers in the Aso Rock Mosque, and several Federal Executive Council, FEC, meetings. Sources exclusively revealed to Post-Nigeria, that Buhari’s Presidential Spokesmen, Femi Adesina, Garba Shehu, and the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, have not been able to get in contact with Mr. President through the phone, since he left Nigera to the UK. “There has not been any official communication between Buhari and those he left behind in Aso Rock, since he traveled out of the country for follow-up medical consultation. “Buhari’s phone no longer rings, everything is dead cold, even Osinbajo has not been able to get through to him.’’ He added: “Have you heard any Governor or Special Adviser saying that Buhari called him, since he left the shores of Nigeria? Have you heard Osinbajo saying that he contacted Mr. President, unlike before?’’ Post-Nigeria recalled, that on Buhari’s January visit to London, many Governors and Politicians had claimed that Mr. President called them on the phone. Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo; Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello; Information Minister, Lai Mohammed; and many others, are those Buhari reportedly called during his last trip. “This time around, no more phone calls, no more visits, everything is at dead end’’, the source hinted. Meanwhile, Post-Nigeria’s investigation revealed that the North may have lost the power it had been impatiently waiting for, since the turn of the Fourth Republic, in 1999. “The North is highly apprehensive on Buhari’s dead silence, since he left for London. There is no chance Buhari’s Northern friends, already accused of imposing a political stranglehold over the masses, will watch Osinbajo become President without a fight, in the event that Buhari is unable to continue in office, owing to ill-health or death’’, a top presidential source revealed when contacted. He added: “Despite the denial of rumours that there is pressure on Osinbajo, a South-Westerner, to resign, the meeting of Northern Governors with the National Security Adviser, NSA, Babagana Monguno, and Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, has raised eyebrows. “Osinbajo is himself in the dark, about the state of the President’s health. Osinbajo will not exercise that power beyond the extent to which he knows Buhari would want him to. And quite frankly, that is not what Nigeria needs at the moment. “Either Buhari returns to office in earnest, to personally oversee the fulfillment of the promises he made to Nigerians in 2015, or he gives up the position for someone else who will run his own vision, and will be entirely accountable for the state of the nation.’’ Report a problem.

Osinbajo and the cabal

BREAKING: Osinbajo In Political Bondage As Buhari’s Cabals Change ALL His Security, Now Guarded By Only Northern Armies post-nigeria.com Thursday, May 11, 2017 08:27 The former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has raised an alarm, over the recent Wednesday military shakeup across the Federation, as it affects the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo. Fani-Kayode took to his Facebook page on Wednesday evening, to express to his concerns about how the affairs of the nation is being handled, and the treatment meted out to Osinbajo. “Finally, all of Osinbajo’s security team have been changed, except for his ADC. Most of the Yorubas have been withdrawn, and he is now being guarded by only Northerners. “He would have lost his ADC too, but he objected strongly to that one, and they left him. The man needs our support and prayers. Every Yorubaman and Southerner, regardless of party affiliation, owes him and the South that much”, Fani-Kayode said. He added: “Trust me when I tell you that the corpsocrats don’t give a damn about constitutional provisions, the rules or the niceties. The only thing that is relevant, is the interpretation that the Service Chiefs and the Military place on the “National Coordinator” letter, that was sent to the Senate. “It is not by accident that every single security agency in Nigeria today, is headed by a Northern Muslim, except for the Navy. And now for the first time since 1999, a Northern Muslim has been appointed GOC of the all-powerful and critical 1st Division, which covers the North -West. “Another has just been appointed to Head the 81st Division, Lagos, and the 9th Mechanised Brigade, Ikeja. “There is one more thing that I know which will shock Nigerians, but I will not say it now. It is unbelievable and shocking, and when you hear it you will all appreciate the sheer humiliation that Osinbajo has been put through, since PMB’s return from UK, and before he went back.” Recall, that on Wednesday, there was a major shake-up and redeployment in the Military. Those affected are: 1. Major General RO Yusuf, of the Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps. He is now the Commander, Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Minna. 2. Buhari Impeachment Process

BREAKING: Barely 24-Hours After Buhari’s Departure, NASS Commences Impeachment Process, As 250 Lawmakers Invoke Section 144 post-nigeria.com Monday, May 08, 2017 11:01 There are alleged reports making rounds, that the National Assembly is making attempts to invoke section 144 (1) of the 1999 Constitution, aimed at ascertaining the health status of President Muhammadu Buhari, for his immediate impeachment. This came to bear, as Buhari on Sunday night, left for the United Kingdom, UK, for a follow up medical examination, despite spending 50 days on an earlier medical vacation, between January and March. As at last week, there was an attempt by the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts, Kingsley Chinda, to present the issue under matters of urgent importance, on the floor of the House of Representatives. However, it was learnt that the initiative failed to see the light of the day, because the Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara, was not favourably disposed to having such a weighty issue with grave political implications in the polity, listed on the order paper of the Lower Legislative Chamber. It was gathered, that key Lawmakers of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, may either re-present it as a motion, or through the guise of a matter of privilege, on either the floor of the Senate, or the House of Representatives, this week. However, Human Rights Activist and Constitutional Lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, maintained that it would be impossible to get 28 out of 42 cabinet Ministers, who are appointees of the President, to invoke such constitutional provision, even if the motion sails through. He expressed concern, that there were attempts by what he termed the cabals, to hoodwink Nigerians, by creating the impression that all was well with the President’s health status.
